Doesn’t the university have some sort of obligation to stay non partisan on issues regarding school policy? I mean, this is an issue we as the student body are supposed to go vote on- yes or no. But, through this video, the UTSC radio website, which I understand to be a subsidiary of the university, is effectively telling us to vote yes. Is this democratic? Shouldn’t the university remain neutral on issues of policy, giving us both sides of the issue so we as students can make an informed choice? The video is incredibly vague giving us no indication of what we are to gain from voting yes other than “world class”- which is ostensibly rhetorical and thus a meaningless catch phrase, proving no meaningful information. I expect more from institutions which claim to support “democracy” and “free choice”. What is free choice if people don’t understand the issues? Does free choice exist when the institution which grants such a choice is undoubtedly telling us what choice to make?

Dylan,
Fusion Radio is not a subsidiary of the University of Toronto. We are owned and operated by SCCR Inc., and are considered a stand alone student society. Our choice to post a Yes! Campaign advertisement does not reflect the universities’ point of view. In addition, had the No side approached us about posting a No video, it would have been equally considered. But the No side did not.
As for the quality and content of the video, it was not made by Fusion Radio. It was supplied to us by the Yes! Campaign. If you have any concerns over the video, you can contact them. Although they may be busy celebrating.
